A careful textual reading of the most well-read book in the history of philosophy, focusing on the larger and more influential metaphysical, anthropological, and epistemological issues rather than the ephemeral political details. The figure of Socrates, related Platonic dialogs, and the Platonic tradition in Western philosophy will also be added as a historical context.
