Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences
Conducted in French. Elective for French majors or minors. Two of the greatest masterpieces of French literature were published in the spring of 1857: Baudelaires collection of lyric poetry, Les Fleurs Du Mal and Flaubert's novel, Madame Bovary. This course will read these texts carefully in order to determine how and why the modernity that has been attributed to them has not ceased to function as a provocative question for literary, philosophical, and historical reflection.
