This seminar explores philosophical readings of desire by key phenomenological thinkers of the twentieth century. These include Sartre, Merleau-Ponty, Levinas, Ricoeur and Irigaray, as well as postmodern critiques of desire by Lacan, Bataille and Deleuze. The class will involve close readings of select texts and participatory panel discussions.
