Satisfies the advanced experience requirement for the Biology major. The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe is an important model organism for the study of intracellular processes such as cell cycle control, transcription, DNA replication, chromosome maintenance, and signal transduction. This laboratory will involve original molecular genetic research using S. pombe that involves concepts related to forward genetics and gene manipulation.
