While students will learn to explicate poetry and write critical analysis by the end of the course, most of our class time will be focused on reading and discussion of poems. The purpose is to get comfortable with poetry, which, by many accounts, is experiencing a new vitality and growing audience in this country. You will be expected to write comprehensively about poetry and will be given aweekly short assignment on a poem or poems of your choice. You will also be writingpoems yourself to experience a bit of what a poet faces. Additionally, you will be responsible for participating in all discussions and for fulfilling all reading assignments.
